1. Name and Occupation?
Anthony Woods = Alteregoh = Greenfingers = artist sorta kinda . ha
2. Favorite Artist (Famous)?
Rauschenberg, Warhol. I really like the grit they brought to the table.
Tony Scherman is also someone I’ve been checking out. I bought his book just for his textures in his napoleon pieces. Funny you can tell when some one has control over their messes. Glenn Barr. I like his style. Maybe all the underground artist answers should move up to the famous section. hmmm
3. Favorite Artist (Underground)?
Amy Sol, Sylvia Ji, . Im really feeling their stuff at the moment.
The Date Farmers, Yoskay, Kofie One has always amazed me. Shaping shit up
Pocket Full of Monsters crew have been storming up some goodness My mind looks for so much in another’s art but can be drawn to something across a room because the artist was using one certain color.
The first thought that goes through my head when I see a painting is whether or not I can relate to it. My mind tends to drift every which way after that. I’m a detail freak.
4. What inspires you?
Fucking Doctors. Those guys are nuts. Handling lives and all. Hahha
I try to pretend im handling a life when im painting. Feeling like Dr Frankenstein when im creating. ITS ALIVE!!!
I’m a packrat, so I come across a lot of stuff I forget about. Then it just clicks 3 years later. That’s life for yuh.
5. How do you classify your work?
I wouldn’t necessarily classify it just yet. I’ll be honest and say I have some growing to do. Painting for the love of painting? Is that possible? Hmm.. all I can say is that Nature took its course.
My work is usually depicting a being with a concerned look on their face, this look being, worry, wonder and paranoia. All things I have been dealing with up until now.
As for the whole mask thing, a mask gives someone the privilege to go about and do things that he or she wouldn’t do without it. Sometimes greed and fame consume those that are masked and the mask isn’t enough. But those who can move with the mask are the ones worthy of all life’s riches, whatever that entails. Doesn’t mean that they have to do it with a smile either. That’s the twist I guess, Doing good and not feeling quite well yourself.
Lately I’ve been incorporating animals and plant life into my work. Somewhat of a companionship between earth and man. Although invisible my work is just a visual statement of that. My ideas on how I think we are connected. Helping others see and at the same time create new ways to look for meaning. There are a lot of people out there that help the earth and others everyday and don’t ask for much in return. These are the people I paint for.
6. What would you be doing if you couldn’t create art?
Trying to be a doctor or something around art. My mind has never drifted too far away from art since around, 3rd grade but I wouldn’t mind the Dr. Woods
7. What’s on your iPod right now?
My I pod is Dead but my PC serves me well. Right now im bumping
The Go! Team, My Bloody Valentine, and Another Green World By Brian Eno
I snuck some Dilla tracks in there too. He blends well with anything. Almost. Almost.
8. What brands do you rep?
Can’t Say. Flip it…! What happens when u die? U go up? We see the world upside down so then do we go down? Down is up, up is down. Has absolutely nothing to do with the question.
9. Words to live by?
Art is Long and Space (time) is Fleeting. - Longfellow
To truly appreciate art a chair is needed. Why a chair?
To prevent the legs, (while tiring) from interfering with the brain.
I forget who said this but its always been stuck in my head.
,Alter Egoh
