So last week we saw the official release of the PUMA x Gumball 3000 racing shoe. This week we got an invite to a sneak peak of this limited edition shoe in person. The party was held at none other then the PUMA store on 3rd Street, Santa Monica.

You know PUMA was doing it right before you even got inside, because as I walked around the corner I immediately saw two sleek, custom rides parked in the middle of the 3rd Street walk way. It would be an understatement to say that people were stopping in their tracks to see what was going on. Hit the jump to see more pics and details.

Heading into the store, there were a cool mix of people just hanging out and looking at the new racing shoe. After enjoying a couple rounds at the open bar and appetizer table, I took some more pics. Check it out.

PUMA Motorsport and Gumball 3000 Gear

Goodie Bags!!!

There were some nice looking ladies out too. Man, I love LA!

All in all, a great party / event, great location, and the shoe looks even better in person. I’m seriously considering jumping on one of the 200 pairs available at Journeys.com. Even if i never wear it and keep it on a shelf, its a dope looking shoe. Until next time…

Quite a bit of bullshit going on in my life, in your life too I’m sure. 6 days until the big election and everyone is stressed. But then I meandered over to my favorite photoblog TheSelby.com and was treated to some amazing photos from his shoot at the residence of Celestine Cooley and Harry Malt. He captured the subjects in their kitchen in one of the most amazing photos I’ve seen. It captures so much: young love, raw emotion, sexual longing … The photo is brilliant. I wanted to share it with all of you so you can enjoy it as much as I did.

It’s official. It’s confirmed. It has been done. MTV the channel for what anyone over 20 remembers is dead, and this past week MTV nailed the final nail in the you know what. I present to you MTVmusic.com

Every video from the vaults of MTV (as well as VH1) has been converted, compressed, uploaded and tagged and put into a clean and simple website that allows you to watch every video with no delay, commercials or price tag. Amazing!! I’m glad to see them finally admiting that they don’t play videos anymore (besides the crap they push on kids and even then they play 3 frames of the video). But also, I’m glad they have in a way admitted that they probably won’t be playing the amount of music videos, like they did in the past, ever again.

I’ll tell you after the jump why this is a smart move, and even in some ways, brings them back street cred. Or at least in my mind.

Ok so check it. TV is dead. Wait you didn’t hear me. Come closer… TV IS DEAD!!! Of course only in the sense of traditional TV. But let’s face it. TV’s aren’t TV’s anymore. They are monitors that we plug hundreds of devices into and interact with all forms of media, whether via the internet, off discs or even now off hard-drives.

Even the media providers don’t care anymore. On-Demand allows you to view most channels with their preferred content. Netflix Instant Play / Roku allows you to have access to ten’s of thousands of movies, shows and other content (especially now that they are getting the top shows from nbc, cbs and soon abc the day after they are aired). Throw in download services like iTunes, amazon, vudu, etc, etc. Still not enough?! What about southparkstudios.com where people can watch every episode of south park previous of that current season. Uncensored and Free!! What about Hulu.com being backed by now all major tv content providers to show all of their shows for free with just two 15 second commercials! Lets not forget on top of all this all the growing number of torrents and traders and downloaders who are getting all these movies and tv shows for free, sometimes even before they are released.

So why would I sit and wait for traditional TV to make me watch 30 minute shows with 15 minutes of comercials and make me watch lame content in between my fav shows. Its over.

MTV realizes this and they know they need to establish themselves now as the premiere video site for music videos. Once this site builds, there are all types of revenue possibilities like paying for HD versions or maybe even a download service. It also gives them a great avenue to release new / alternative videos from old / current / underground artists that might be a little niche, but who cares?! It’s a sub-category within a category on a site. No 3 minutes of their precious air time wasted with half of their tween female audience being like “on my god, i don’t get this”

Be proud to know that you will be able to tell your grand-kids that you saw the death of TV. But let’s be more positive here. In fact it is the re-birth of TV. TV as we know it will become less about the idea of TV channels and its forced content and more on just free access to all content how and when you want it. Content from billion dollar studios and content from the crazy dude on the corner who makes those chicken videos in his garage. Both equally battling for your attention, and ad dollars. This may scare some, but all i can say is “I can’t f#$%ing wait!!!”

So go check out MTV’s newest side project. Let me know what videos you like.

It’s an interesting choice for the nightlife and lifestyle magazine, although his blogs have thousands of fans who wait eagerly for his latest posts (hello!), Mr. Kim’s styles, tastes and interests don’t strike me as 944ish. Perhaps that’s the very reason he was hired. Kim’s first 944 is on news stands now and features a piece on Union LA’s purveyor of cool Chris Gibbs. If this is a sign of things to come for 944, pencil me in for a subscription.
